My 5 Favorite Movies and Why They Stuck with Me
For my first post, I want to dive into five movies I can’t stop thinking about. Each of these films has left a lasting impression, whether through storytelling, visuals, or unforgettable characters. They’re movies that I keep coming back to, not just for entertainment but because they offer something deeper every time I watch them. So, here’s a look at why Django Unchained, Tron, Manjummel Boys, Cars, and The Grand Budapest Hotel hold a special place in my heart.
1. Django Unchained
Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained is unforgettable for its intense storytelling, bold characters, and brutal honesty in tackling themes of slavery and revenge. Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of Django, a former slave turned bounty hunter, is both powerful and moving. The movie’s raw dialogue and striking visuals, combined with Tarantino’s unique style, create an experience that’s impossible to forget. Each time I watch it, I find new layers in the characters and new details in the storytelling, making it one of those films that stays with me long after the credits roll.
2. Tron
Tron was a huge visual influence for me, blending futuristic aesthetics with a neon-filled digital world. Its groundbreaking visual effects and electronic soundtrack by Daft Punk make it stand out as a sci-fi classic. There’s something about the immersive, computer-generated world that always sparks my creativity, reminding me of the potential to push design boundaries. Plus, the journey of the main character, Sam Flynn, into a world that’s both dangerous and mesmerizing is one I always find thrilling to watch.
3. Manjummel Boys
Manjummel Boys is a lesser-known gem that has a special place in my heart. It’s a local movie with an incredibly relatable and nostalgic feel, capturing the essence of friendship, family, and growing up. Watching it brings back memories of simpler times, with humor and heart that hit home. The characters, humor, and slice-of-life moments are all deeply authentic, and it’s a reminder of my own roots and friendships. It’s a movie I love sharing with friends, as it feels like a little piece of home.

4. Cars
Pixar’s Cars might seem like a simple story on the surface, but for me, it’s always been about finding one’s path and the unexpected journeys that shape us. Lightning McQueen’s character development from a cocky race car to a humbler, more understanding individual resonates with me. The movie’s setting in Radiator Springs, filled with unique characters and beautiful landscapes, has a timeless feel that’s both comforting and inspiring. There’s a certain magic to Cars that brings me back, reminding me of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the people around us.
5. The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel is a visual masterpiece, with meticulous attention to detail and a style that’s unmistakably Anderson’s. The movie’s quirky characters, witty dialogue, and gorgeous color palette make it an artistic experience as much as a story-driven one. The film has an elegance and whimsy that’s rare, and its exploration of friendship, loyalty, and loss adds layers that keep me coming back. Each watch reveals new details, from the set design to the clever dialogue, making it an endlessly rewarding film.
These are just a few of my favorite films, but each has influenced me in different ways, from design inspiration to storytelling techniques and beyond. Whether it’s the action-packed scenes in Django Unchained or the nostalgic feel of Manjummel Boys, these movies remind me why I love cinema and storytelling. Let me know which of these movies resonate with you—or if you have any favorites I should check out!
